Warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine were the order of the day on June 19, 2024 as members of the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï community gathered on campus for the third ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Alumni Association Faculty and Staff Appreciation BBQ and subsequent General Assembly career milestone celebration.

Technology can be confounding and difficult to understand and appreciate for many people. Those with the training and willingness to share their knowledge, however, have the skills to unlock its powers and end up holding a special place in the hearts of anyone who relies on technology to get the job done. Brad George, recently retired Manager of Hardware Services at ÍøÆسԹÏ, is one of those people. Over a 30-year career at ÍøÆسԹÏ, Brad’s patience and outstanding service distinguished him among his peers, going above and beyond with confidence, kindness and a smile. The ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Alumni Association is delighted to recognize him as the 2024 recipient of the Outstanding University Service Award.

Taya Lucas-Desmond, a fourth-year environmental science student at ÍøÆسԹÏ, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Tory-Bagnall and MacDonald Bursary. Cairine (Tory) and Bernie MacDonald established the $10,000 annual bursary to honour their family's commitment to education and to enable students from the Maritimes to aspire to university.    

ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï proudly announces the creation of the Tory-Bagnall and MacDonald Bursary, established through the generosity of Cairine and Bernie MacDonald. First awarded in 2024, the bursary is focused on supporting female and Black students achieve their educational dreams. In 2025-2026, the selection priority will include recent high school graduates enrolling for their first year at ÍøÆسԹÏ.

David Hovell (BBA ’91) has enjoyed a long relationship with ÍøÆسԹÏ. He was the third generation in his family to attend, and after graduation, he served on the Associated Alumni Board of Directors from 2014 to 2018.

Now, he’s a member of the 1838 Society, which means he has confirmed a legacy gift to ÍøÆسԹÏ.

There was something for everyone on Tuesday, May 21 when ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï alumni representing grad years spanning six decades gathered for a reception at O’Reilly’s Irish Newfoundland Pub in St. John's.
