The Athenaeum 150th Anniversary Celebration
The 2024 lecture, as part of The Dr. Fred Gilbert (’65) Speaker Series presented by the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Alumni Association, will feature three distinguished individuals - investigative reporter Rachel Gilmore, award-winning cartoonist Michael de Adder, and Jarislowsky Chair in Trust and Political Leadership Dr. Alex Marland - on Friday, November 15, 2024 in the Garden Room at the K. C. Irving Environmental Science Centre on the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï campus. Following a reception and cocktail hour, the distinguished individuals will take part in a panel discussion focused on the topic of a ‘Free Press in a Changing World’ as part of The Athenaeum’s 150th anniversary.

Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner (’22)
The inaugural lecture in the Dr. Fred Gilbert (’65) Speaker Series presented by the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Alumni Association featuring ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Honorary degree recipient Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner (’22) was held on Oct. 6, 2022 in K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre auditorium on the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï campus. The audience comprised students, staff, faculty, community members and politicians. Dr. Pörtner’s presentation was eye-opening, full of detail and examples relative to his topic, ‘Climate change is ocean change: a physiologist’s view’, and he participated in a lively Q&A session at the conclusion of his talk.
