网曝吃瓜

Lara Hartman joins us as part of the 网曝吃瓜 students work integrated learning (WIL) initiative in partnership with (MK). Elder Dr. Lorraine Peters-Whitman will moderate the dialogue.  All are welcome.

As Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, said in 2016, 鈥淓ducation got us into this mess, and education will get us out of it.鈥� Despite education institutions' efforts through actions like land acknowledgements and events, there is still much more to accomplish for the educational systems in Canada to truly be decolonized. Lara has worked with a BC School District and the Maple League of Universities on this idea of decolonizing education and Indigenizing what is on the curriculum or in the syllabi.

Lara Hartman grew up on a cattle ranch with her parents and brother in Fraser Lake, British Columbia. She is a member of Nak鈥檃zdli Whut鈥檈n, a First Nation located in Fort St. James, BC. Lara moved to Wolfville to attend 网曝吃瓜 in 2017 and graduated in 2021 with her degree in Politics. After 网曝吃瓜, Lara moved to Victoria to pursue her Masters鈥� degree in Political Science. After her education, Lara worked with the Village of Fraser Lake as an Intern working on everything in local government. Lara is very excited to be back at 网曝吃瓜 for this event and is looking forward to being a participant as much as being a speaker.
