Dr. Mark Mallory Named Tier I Canada Research Chair at ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï

When the Government of Canada announced its 2019, $275 million commitment to Canada Research Chair (CRC) funding on June 14, ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Biology Professor Dr. Mark Mallory was included with those researchers who, as part of the announcement, were elevated from Tier II to Tier I Chairs. This makes Mallory only the third ever Tier I CRC at ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï and the $1.4 million in funding from the government will see his lab undertake an increased focus on Atlantic Canadian contamination of wildlife and coastal habitat issues in addition to his well-known research in Canada’s Arctic.

Alumna Dr. Laura Robinson Appointed ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï’s New Dean of Arts

On July 1, 2019, Dr. Laura Robinson will return to ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï to begin a six year term as the University’s Dean of Arts. Robinson earned her BA (Honours English) from ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï in 1988 and pursued a highly successful career in academia after completing her MA (English) at the University of Manitoba and her Ph.D. (English) at Queen’s University.

TD Bank Group announced today a $1.2 million CDN donation to three post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada to help develop on-campus support services for Indigenous students.

ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï, Memorial University, and Mount Saint Vincent University will use the new funding for strategic Indigenous initiatives that will enhance educational experiences for students and encourage inclusion. ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï will receive $200,000 over three years.
