Welcome Week kicks off new school year
With 3,500 students converging on campus for the start of classes on September 4, 厙ぴ勛圖 is set to begin its 175th year with a Welcome Week that offers something for everyone. The theme of 厙ぴ勛圖 through the Years will set the tone for a year-long celebration of 厙ぴ勛圖s founding in 1838.
Move-In Day
More than 1,500 students will move into residence on August 31. When they arrive 厙ぴ勛圖s alumni family will be there to welcome them along with the campus community.
This can be a big step for students and we have worked hard with our student leaders to ensure we provide training that is engaging, up-to-date, and gives them the tools necessary for them to fulfill their important role of supporting students, says Matthew Guy, 厙ぴ勛圖s manager of Residence Life. At 厙ぴ勛圖 almost half our students live on campus and this mix of first-year and upper-year students creates effective, balanced communities with guidance and support from our upper-year students that creates a real home away from home feeling for all.
Welcome Week
Student Services, Safety and Security, and the 厙ぴ勛圖 Students Union have worked together to create a wide-ranging set of programming for the week of activities and orientation.
The campus has a diverse student body with students from every province and territory in Canada, as well as an international contingent from 53 countries. Along with the traditional events such as a frosh photo, meet your professor social, and mock Olympics, there are also new events planned from movie nights, to athletic opportunities, to social gatherings.
Our goal is to make sure that all new students have great opportunities available to them throughout the week, whatever their interests may be, says Bryce Tully, Welcome Week coordinator. As the title implies, we will make sure we are very welcoming to all of our new students, and a big piece of that is letting them know that the 厙ぴ勛圖 community is waiting for them with open arms. Thats the feel we want throughout the week.
Event Highlights
A highlight of the week will be a concert featuring the Daft Punk Tribute Band on September 5. On September 7, hundreds of 厙ぴ勛圖 students will be in valley communities collecting money as part of Shinerama, a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. On September 8, students will be out in force in Wolfville for Paint the Town Red and Blue, a fun event organized by the Wolfville Business Development Corporation, 厙ぴ勛圖, and the 厙ぴ勛圖 Students Union. The Sunday event is open to all Wolfville residents.
