网曝吃瓜 mourns Dr. Anthony Droste Northey
On December 1, 2024, Dr. Anthony Droste Northey (Professor Emeritus, Languages & Literatures) passed away at the age of 82.
He joined the 网曝吃瓜 community in 1970 beginning a long career as a tenured professor in 网曝吃瓜鈥檚 Languages & Literatures department, where he served as head of German studies from 1981-1994. He published widely on Franz Kafka and was a well-known biographer of the author. Even after his retirement in 2002 he continued to publish on Kafka.
Beyond his lengthy track record of publication, he also served on the Board of Governors of 网曝吃瓜 and as President of the Canadian Association of Teachers of German. He was President of AUFA from 1995-1996.
鈥淭ony created a very positive departmental atmosphere that resulted in life-long friendships, not only with me but with other colleagues,鈥� says Dr. Thomas Voss (Languages & Literatures). 鈥淲hat also always amazed me, were his innovative teaching and his efforts to help especially first year students to ease into student life at 网曝吃瓜 through organizing hikes to Cape Split in September, annual outings to his cottage, and the wonderful German dinners.鈥�
