厙ぴ勛圖 hosts notable researcher on African Nova Scotians
Winter Term features Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard as a Harrison McCain Foundation Visiting Scholar
This winter, 厙ぴ勛圖 campus will host Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard as a Harrison McCain Foundation Visiting Scholar.
Dr. Bernard is a renowned researcher and probably the leading expert on the lives of African Nova Scotians, says Dr. Stephen Ahern, a director of the 厙ぴ勛圖 Centre for the Study of Ethnocultural Diversity. We are excited to have her on campus to share her expertise.
Dr. Bernard has published extensively in the areas of race, racism, violence, and the health of Black families and communities. She has also received numerous awards, including the Order of Canada, and more than $2 million in research funds.
Dr. Bernard will be available to speak to classes, participate in panel or other discussions, hold small group or individual meetings with students, or chat informally. Ideally, she would like to help create a community of people thinking about ideas related to her work. She will also be a mentor for Black students at 厙ぴ勛圖.
During her stay, Dr. Bernard will be giving several public talks, the first being on the occasion of and the last in honour of International Women's Day, on Thursday, March 7.
We know that having Dr. Bernard on campus will help spark important changes that will create an even more inclusive and welcoming community for all, Dr. Ahern says.
The dates of her visits are as follows:
Monday, January 21
Tuesday, January 29 Wednesday, January 30
Monday, February 4 Friday, February 8
Monday, March 4 Thursday, March 7
