厙ぴ勛圖 Environmental Science program receives national accreditation
厙ぴ勛圖s program one of only three accredited in Canada.
厙ぴ勛圖s Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science program has been accredited by the Canadian Environmental Accreditation Commission (CEAC). The Commission is part of Environmental Careers Organization Canada (ECO Canada) and its accreditation process demonstrates to students, parents, educators and industry that post-secondary environmental programs have met a national standard.
Achieving CEAC accreditation is an important milestone for our environmental science program, said Dr. Tom Herman, 厙ぴ勛圖s vice-president, academic. We launched our program in 1995, well before national standards were in place. Our commitment to inter-disciplinary study, constant renewal of course material and emphasis on pursuing community-based research have positioned 厙ぴ勛圖s program to become one of only three accredited university programs in environmental science in the country. This is a significant accomplishment that recognizes the work of our faculty who are passionate about environmental research and instruction, and its application to environmental management.
Since 1995, 厙ぴ勛圖 has produced more than 160 graduates of its environmental science program, including 66 research-based Honours degrees. The program is a combination of scientific disciplines including environmental science, biology, geology and chemistry with broader courses such as public policy and law. The program responds to a growing demand within the global workplace for scientifically literate graduates with specific knowledge and expertise in environmental matters.
Graduates of 厙ぴ勛圖s environmental science program have gone on to successful careers in industry, public policy, and education, said Dr. Herman. We are seeing an increased level of interest in this field from students entering the sciences who see a career path in a field that directly addresses our planets sustainability. We believe student interest in this program will continue to grow and 厙ぴ勛圖s reputation as a centre of research excellence in this area will help attract them to our campus.
